  • Alucolour, Reynobond or Dibond ?

Posted by Bob @ Prestige on 7 April 2005 at 06:30

    Hi guys

Would ther be any preference or benefit in using any one of the above against any of the others. I’ve to do a shop front sign and the customer wants a plain finnish, no frame, border etc.

    Any advice appreciated

    Thanks

Ive used both Dibond and Alupanel (available from Pryamid ) and prefer Alupanel because it is gloss one side and matt the other side………oh and its alot cheaper!

Thanks for the reply, can you provide any details for pryamid ? have done a quick search but came up with nothing, do you know if alupanel is the same as alucolor (europoint)?

    Thanks again

We might be discussing oranges & apples as far as I know.
I think you are referring to using a plain sheet of aluminum, say .040,
as opposed to a piece of Alumalite (a correx/aluminum sandwich)
I’d opt for the better material.
Alumalite at least around here can be framed in with plastic U-channel,
even tho the customer wants it unframed, it’s nice to add that option.
    Plain aluminum is too wobbly.
I mean, it would work in a pinch, but it is easier to scratch (to me)
    and just looks cheaper.
Alumalite is so rigid, yet very lightweight.
Give me a good stiffy any time. 😉
If they are really a cheapskate, do it on correx.
Give them a three-tiered priceing option of the same design
    on each substrate.
    GOOD BETTER BEST

Thanks for the reply, the alucolor is 0.3mm aluminium composite so I think thats what you are refering to. I was not aware I could get a trim to make the edges look better, any uk people know of it or were I can get it ? As for the stiffy, I am sure I had one of thos a couple of weeks ago, next time I get one you are more than welcome

Huggs and all that kind of stuff

Hiya, Pyramid’s contact details are 0161 872 5666 and dont forget to haggle the price 😀
It could be the same stuff as the other, but you never know they could be cheaper, comes in 2mm and 3mm thicknesses and quite a few colours

Bob, I use Alucolor from Europoint all the time much cheaper than Dibond. You can also get Leeboard from them and it is a bit cheaper still, but I haven’t tried that yet.

If the sign size is over 1.5m then you might have trouble getting the board from down south due the restrictions of the carriers, better off nipping round the corner to Europoint.

    Cheers
