signs look great peter… 😀 whats the “Returns done with SMP extrusion”
im not familure with them. sorry, im being nosey 😉

    nice prints mr simpson 😀

peter, i have to say, i have the upmost respect for folk like yourself, going out and fitting work like this on their own. its not easy at the best of times and an 8×4 is NOT small… im guilty of always having a lad on tow when i fit any signs.
amongst others, ive also seen phill fenton, andy gorman etc fit big fascias, lightboxes on their todd and i always wonder “how the hell?” 😕

anyway, good stuff mate and thanks for taking the time to post your wrok!

ahhhh right got you now… yeh i have saw them but never tried. i must have had a blonde moment, :lol1: i thought the returns were for builtups and always wondered how this could be achieved with letters with tight returns like a letter “S”

i think i will give them a buzz for some samples. looks good/neat and save s us folding “big” panels as we can only fold 6ft max. 😕 😀

    well done Pete.

I don’t fit my own signs usually, especially a full sheet. I have contract sign fitters. Wish we had those smp frames here locally, looks like a great supplier to have on tap.

Good print job too John. What material did you use, and was it laminated?

hi shane, not sure the norm for folks, but unless i think a sign is going to be regularly washed, or south facing, i never bother with a laminate.
i can understand with the sun in your neck of the worlds this might be something all prints get treated to?

Thanks Rob, I guess we do have harsher environments here with the sun, the highest consistant UV ratings in the world here in Qld (Skin cancer capital of the world too) but I’ll usually laminate anything that needs to be long term. I don’t laminate promotional stuff tho.

Interested to hear that you guys over there don’t see the same need for laminating as we do here.

Yellows and greens will fade here in 9 months unlaminated if facing the direct sun. I did an unlaminated banner for a pet shop here 8 months ago, and all the yellow is white now. The hot pink and black in the sign basically is unchanged.

    Jon,
As far as fixings go, the trays are hung using 4 pieces of ali angle. On the clad building, I used pop rivets to fix the angle. 2 full width pieces top and bottom, and 2 pieces of about 2′ for the centre of the sides.
I then used self drill and tap bolts to fix the tray to the angles.
The Giant Pet Store had a wooden fascia, so screws instead of rivets.

I sometimes use the self drills to fix direct to the cladding, but in this case because the sign was hung portrait, felt rivets were safer (2 on each corner of the highs on the cladding)

    Rob, Shane

The print was laminated, but John no doubt wil tell you more.

Its no great fete to fit single handed, the alucolour is very light, it might have been a bit awkward in any wind though.

I think we have said on here before that some of us “over engineer”
Well i am guilty of that in this case. Because the job was for a friend i didn’t want to let Peter / Lynn down by printing onto a cheap substrate, so i print onto “Graphiwrap” which is a cast vinyl using the cast lam as well.
That way i have done my best for Peter / Lynn, so there shouldn’t be any come back to either of us.

If i had been told it was for short term exhibition type work then i would have used a cheaper material but would have still laminated as i use the Rockhopper which is Eco sol, all my prints need laminating in my opinion & in my experience.
