Anyone here running one? The good the bad and the ugly?

Wouldn’t mind adding a 2.5m width printer to the arsenal. The print speeds of 12metres square an hour wouldn’t hurt either at the moment.

How is the quality at 720×720?

    Any banding issues?

    Hi Jason,
Why do you want AJ? It’s only 2.5 m. Why don’t you take a 3.2 machine? It’s bigger and cheaper. Don’t get me wrong, I lOVE Roland, but only in the small sizes(1.37). To answer your question: the quality is good, but still the parts and the ink are expensive. BUT, there is a solution if you what the same quality (I prefer quality before anything). The solution is called JHF Vista V3304E. I believe the price is drastically lower, BUT the printheads are the same. The JHF uses SEIKO SPT 510, which is identical to AJ1000 but with different code name. You can check this on the net. I want to have a bigger machine and had a very good offer for second hand JHF, and while digging around it, I discovered its identity with AJ1000. I haven’t made a lot of test on the JHF, but on first sight it looks with the quality of AJ1000 (which of course if perfect). Also. the JHF is pure solvent (on my believe), and the AJ1000 uses standard Ecosol inks. The price of quality solvent is around 20-30 euros, and the price of Ecosol is around 300-400 euros if I’m not wrong.

    Hope I have helped you
    Regards
    Ivan

    Hi Jason,

We have an AJ 1000 printer. Personnally I find it very good for printing PVC banners, flex face skins etc… For vinyl printing, exhibition stands etc… the output is sellable but obviously not as good as a 1440 x 1440 printer.

With regards print speeds we only normally run it on high quality mode which we never have any issues with though I believe the max print speed is around 90sq/m an hour. We have played around with this and if using the right profile and the right media you can get some half decent results – obviously not fine art quality but fine for billboards or building wraps.

I would however agree with Ivan in that it would be nice to have the option of printing upto 3.2m wide, and if you can find a printed capable of doing this at a cheaper price I would snap it up.

    Thanks guys,

that basically rules it out for what we want it for.

I still need to be able to do vehicle wraps on it.

Hey mate, might pay to wait and see all the samples at the sign show in October?

I’ll be down there then too, we can have a look together. I’m not going to buy anything, but I’d enjoy helping you spend your money :lol1:

    Hey Shane,

I don’t think we can wait that long. I’m considering a few machines at the moment without seeing their output.

My main concern at the moment though is speed. So the 90k for a printer is a bit much just for wraps but like we do we tend to bite the bullet before we get the work and make it happen from there.

I want to look at an XJ640 in peron with some files I want printed along with a HP9000s and the AJ.

Have you gotten your new printer yet?
