  • Advise needed – Vinyl cutter and software for paint stencil.

    Hi,

I’m new here and definitely new to vinyl cutters, so I was hoping that someone would be kind enough to give me some advise.

I am trying to find a machine to cut paint stencils. The requirements are basically to cut alphanumeric characters onto a peelable adhesive material to be applied as a paint stencil. I have identified that vinyl cutters are used for this application, please correct me if I’m wrong. I have also been told that the Jaguar IV 61 is good for this application. What I am struggling with though is the software requirements. As previously mentioned, I just need to cut alphanumeric characters, but the Jaguar and other vinyl cutters I have looked at mention interfacing to CorelDRAW or Adobe Illustrator. While both of these programs are very good and more than capable, they are also very feature rich for what I require. Is there any simpler software available to achieve this?

In addition, I am open to any suggestions of other suitable machines and stencilling materials suitable for applying to a flat or slight radius surfaces. Basically any advise on paint stencil making would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    Carl

    Hi

Just a quick point Carl. How many of these will you be doing? Is it regular and just lettering to stencil?

I ask this because you may be better off getting a local sign company to do them for you. If it is regular and simple you could get a good price.

I know we all like doing stuff ourselves but you are talking of say £800-£1000 for the cutter and £300 for software plus a PC.

    Hi David,

This will be a very regular thing. The company I’m working for apply a lot of paint stencilled characters, from 1cm to 20cm tall, so investing in the right equipment, software and material could be very worthwhile. The cost you mention is not outwith what I was considering.

Carl if all you are doing is alphanumeric signage then you can match the Jaguar up with SignPal apprentice software……….I’m back in the office tomorrow so feel free to give me call.
