  • Advice on which material to use please?

I’ve recently had a dreadful problem with some big chunks of Oracle 751 on the side of a van mainly due to the cold. Customer has taken the van away 2/3rds finished and he’s happy to wait until the weather improves before I retry the fitting, the van was too big to get in the workshop.
It’s a solid colour that going onto flatish side panels but over the recesses which are fairly shallow, but it will need a bit of heat to push it down.
Can someone recommend a gloss solid colour range of wrapping material that might make life easier for me, ideally one that doesn’t need application tape if there is such a product.

Oracal 751c isnt a wrapping film Steve.
you should try Oracal 970 which is a wrapping film.
it is also easier to handle and less temperamental to the 751c.
recommended post heating is 120 degrees, so make sure you have a laser temp gauge handy. 😀

Thanks Rob, I used 751 on the same job a couple of years ago but it was done in warm weather so it was a lot easier to handle, but in the low temperatures I found it far too thin.
I’ve managed ok with printed media with a laminate on but that’s like a roll of lino compared with ordinary cast material so it’ll take a bit more abuse in my inexperienced hands 😀

Yep, Oracal 751c is a cast mate and in fairness to you, it is pretty temperamental in the cold.
most Cast films are because of how thin the film is and aggressive the adhesive can be. flip side of that, is Cast vinyl on a hot day is just as bad, super stretchy… comes with the territory of these films. 😀
