  • Advice on a cheap Seiko 64s colour painter printer, please?

    Hey guys

I’m looking at buying an old Seiko 64s color painter to get me started doing my own in-house digital prints, just wondered what everyone thought of them?

Is there anything I need to check? Are they prone to problems?

Ideally I would like a newer Roland or mimaki but I don’t do enough digital prints at the moment to warrant the cost and this color painter has come up relatively cheap.

It’s a huge printer so it will allow me to do everything and I’ve also got a graphtec 120 so I can do a lot of the contour cuts myself unless the print is over 1200.

I’ve been weighing up my options,

1: Continue to outsource until the cost accumulates making it affordable to buy my own printer. This is ok for the larger prints, but anything small like small signs, 1-off banners, t-shirt prints get really expensive and I can’t really compete on price.

2: Buy a cheap solvent printer which will allow me to print the smaller items as well as the larger prints and once I accumulate more business then upgrade to the Roland or mimaki

    Thanks

From what I remember they are one of the early machines and they do require quite a lot of upkeep to keep them printing nice

We have a new Colour Painter, and can’t rate it highly enough. There’s a post on here about it.

I would speak to Signmaster Systems, as they sell new Seiko’s and also Part Ex them, against new machines. I don’t know what stock they carry, but I’m sure Jay will keep you in mind if anything comes up?

you would be better looking for a cheap Versacamm and just out source your larger prints you can maintain a Roland yourself if you are savvy

    Thanks Kevin

    That’s what i’m thinking.

I think i’ll hold off for now then seeing as it’s a very old machine

Hi Dan. I did reply to your email but I think you have made the right decision in holding off for now.
