  • Advice needed on equipment to create printed stickers?

    Hi Guys,
    I’m after some advice/suggestions please.

I’ve been doing Vinyl cut stickers/decals now for about a year, I keep getting asked if I do printed stickers and so far have been turning people down as I don’t have the equipment to do it.
I’m now in a position to look and poss buy the equipment needed to print stickers but have no idea what to buy or what I actually need to do them…..
    Any help much appreciated 😕

    Hi,

Sounds good! I imagine you’ve got to be keen to start printing in house, always good to keep the customers happy.

A lot of people would look at something like a Roland BN-20 but your other option would be to look around for some 2nd user or ex-demo kit as you can usually get a good deal and can be a great way of making that initial investment. Something like a Roland SP-300 would be ideal, my only advice would be, as a first time user(?) that you go for something that has warranty and comes with some training so that you’re good to go from day 1. The last thing you want is to have a new printer and have technical struggles from day 1, kind of like buying a 2nd hand car. If you come to a Roland dealer they’ll usually offer a level of warranty which would add peace of mind.

What vinyl cutter have you been using out of curiosity? This could sway your printer decision, always best to stick with what you know if possible.

    Hope that helps,

    Simon

One important thing to remember with solvent machines is that they cost you money even if you have nothing to print, they are not like an office type machine that can get switched on every once in a while when it’s needed.

It is often best to start out by using a trade printer for any digital work you get asked for. That way you can start to build that side of the business without actually owning a printer, as that side of the business grows & you are spending more & more on trade printing services look to bring it in house.

I will be a first timer for printing stuff but have had lots of requests from various clubs etc so thought I’d look into it.
My cutter is a EU Cutters 720….. not sure of the actual make of it, got it as a package deal 2 years ago as it came with the heatpress for clothing and mugs.
So far it’s been fantastic, but is only fit for 24" rolls and will probably be getting a 54" cutter before long

Advice is to Buy it in to get a feel for the type of work you’re getting asked for. Sounds like a similar position we were in 18 months ago.
We were getting asked for print more and more so took the advice given here and started buying it in. Within 6 months I was spending £500+/month, more than enough to pay for our own machine!
Benefit is that it gave us time to look at the kind of work we were getting so ended up getting a different machine than initially considered.
