  • Advice needed on assembly of panels onto post and panel sign

Posted by Neil Beckett on 13 November 2012 at 09:08

    Hi all,

I’m still fairly new to the sign industry, though used to be a Graphic designer some years back, so please excuse my ignorance.

I have my very first post and panel job to do (temporary- to last atleast 6 months). The posts are already there(A) with pre-drilled holes (from a previous business that was based there).

I’m not 100% sure about how to construct the double sided sign. Please have a look at the attached drawing. The hatch area (B) is meant to represent a timber strip to which the panels (C) are screwed onto. Is this correct? If not how would you build it?
    Many thanks,
    Neil.

I cant see anything wrong with it.

    Thanks Simon!

How do I secure the timber strip to the post as its hollow and nothing to "bite" into. Is there something similar to plasterboard screw for this?

Just use a decent sized self tapper, job done.
Or you could insert a wood strip inside the post to screw into.

that works perfect i would use aluminium angle rather then timber so i could use rivets to mount the boards rather than having to use screw caps

Thanks Jack. This was a temporary display up for just about 8 months. But will go with Aluminium for permamnent signs in the future thanks.
Here’s a pic of the completed job which was my first post and panel sign.

    Thanks Jack.
To make the panel stronger and stop any flex of the double sided panels I made a complete frame like this…

Looks good Neil, thanks for posting up your completed work mate.
makes all the difference to a post when you see a post asking for advice through to the finished job.
