  • Advice needed on a Laminator, please?

    Hi guys…

Which laminator would you recommend for low volume vinyl & backlit laminating? Is it hot or cold laminator needed? I don’t need something expensive but should not give any problem.. Thanks..

Buy cheap buy twice as they say.

We have a mounters mate. It’s not the cheapest on the market, but we’ve had it 3.. maybe 4 years now. Must be coming up for many many miles of use anyway. No issues. User error maybe but apart from a clip which we broke.. not needed a single part.

They also do a smart station which is a work bench. I have to say since getting the bigger version, if it’s under 3 meters we tend to use the bench. Much faster. Good for getting rid of End rolls to.. and has plenty of other uses.

      Hi Chris,

I guess you are talking about Rollsroller type of table applicator. I’m not asking about this. I’m asking laminators like Easymount etc.. Thanks

    Hi Erdy

There are a few options to consider.

Do you want a laminator or an application table. The application table lays vinyl onto panels and the laminator allows laminating film to be laminated onto vinyl and also can be used to lay onto panels.

If it’s a laminator you want future proof your width. Don’t buy a 760 wide just because it’s cheaper.

A heated top roller will help eliminate silvering adhesive when laminating vinyl.

Will you require a take up unit?

I agree on the buy cheap buy twice saying……so beware

I’ve sold many laminators over the years and I must say Vivid have the widest choice Plus very reliable and you won’t go far wrong with the easymount sign range if your to a tight budget or easymount if you can spend a little extra

    Hope this helps

Thanks Graham, I’m talking about laminator only, not a Rollsroller type application table.

But I know some people even laminate films onto vinyl and even mount vinyls onto the board with laminator like Easymount..

We normally do 3d letters and metal fabricating things.. We don’t know much about printing & laminating stuff. But going to that way too. As we don’t have a lot work in that range we don’t want to invest too much, just something which can do the job until we get more jobs and learn to use it.

      Thanks

We’ve just bought one Erdy. We had a ‘cheapo’ one although new and classed as professional it didn’t really perform, but wasn’t too bad, and we are only a light user.

Main issues with it was the lack of a take up reel and the tracking through the laminator always skewed which was a royal pain.

We bought one from mounters mate – not the pro version, jut one down. Cost was 3k which I didn’t think was too bad. Has a take up reel and pneumatic rollers and the tracking is spot on.

I wish we had bought that initially but only found them trawling through this forum.

    Good luck.
