advice : creating vectors from Jpegs etc …..

Depending on complexity, it is far better to re-draw the image using the Jpeg as a template. I do this in Corel.

Import Jpeg
Insert a new layer and rename ‘trace’
Lock the Jpeg layer (click on the pencil icon in object manager)
Start drawing and edit nodes/lines to match.

Its an invaluable skill to have as you rather than the computer decides how many nodes and in what order objects are drawn as this directly influences the order in which thet are cut.

Have a look at the Vector Wise Demo. the principles are the same for the majority of drawing packages.

I can only comment on Corel but I find you get better sometimes if you convert it to black and white. Sometime the jpegs are so small that its a waste of time. I normally just send these to vectorwise or vectormagic does it online for you, the results aren`t as good as vectorwise but it is cheaper and faster.

Would recommend either of these.

We usually redraw stuff in Omega, was just hoping for a ‘button’ that
would do it for me. :lol1: I’ll give those ideas a go. Might be easier in
Corel, and i’ll contact those places and see what they can do too.

On seeing this I just tried vectormagic online with a logo I have already had to convert with Signlab.
Results? Absolutely brilliant! As well as reproducing a drawn part with long curves, it reproduced text which was virtually identical to having been typed.
Just got to convince myself of the price for the desktop version.
Meanwhile at about £1.50 an image online it’s worth the money.

We use the unlimited version and at the time got it for $4.95 a month for like three months. Well worth it in my book. we’d have to use the desktop version for like over three years to get our money back.

Nice, thanks Jason, will definitely try that out, spend most of my time sorting out low res rubbish so definitely worth a couple of quid time wise. 😀

If you are still wishing to use not a suggested website them in Omega when you select picture -> Tools -> Posterize Image/Color Raster to Vector.
Some times it can be helpful, but it depends on number of colors and quality of picture. If it is bad then you will get "stepy" (if there is such word) with a lot of point and if you are planning to plot it or rout it will be a nightmare, so you have to work on it.
Generate Decal Cut will give you an outside shape.
Most of a time it is faster to use pen to in Illustrator or analog in Corel, and using picture as a template draw it again.
But if that website is that good then you won’t need to do that.
