  • Advertising on your own car?

Alright you lot. I’ve just picked up a new(ish) motor. A volvo estate. I’m in 2 minds as to whether I want to put any graphics on it. I don’t have a van presently, and although I firmly believe in advertising on vehicles I’m unsure as to whether it looks a bit…sort of…amateurish on a car. I don’t have a problem with customers knowing I’m a one man band; most of them know this but…well you know. What do you lot think?

If I do decide to put something on the car it would probably be quite subtle – smart but minimal. Am I fussing over nothing here? Maybe. I’m not looking for design ideas or anything but if anyone has tastefully decorated their car I’d be interested to see it. Just to see what sort of impression it gives.

PS Before you start, yes, a Volvo Estate, I know, I’m a boring old fart!

    A volvo? 😮 Andy, a Volvo!! 😮 😮 😮 😮

Oh well.. anyway, I’ve got a people carrier and I’ve faced the same dilemma. It does everything I want it to (I took the toy shop sign, all 5 metres x 1.3metres of it, to site in it) and more besides, but it doesn’t exactly scream signmaker to ppl.

Personally I’m just going to go for it. I’ve sat on the idea (and yes, my brains are in me ass 😉 ) for 9 months, swinging one way then the other, but everyone I work for knows my car, and they’re not bothered as long as I do a good job for them. So, I figure a smart design, not too fussy, just on the front doors, the back end and maybe the bonnet. Its virtually free advertising and at least if I cut someone up at a junction, they can ring me to curse me rather than give me those horrible hand signals 😉

I’d go for it, albiet a volvo, even the most basic of lettering would act as an advertisement for your business.

    Cheers, Dewi

Dare I say it???? magnetics? yes they are a pain in the arse but if they are done well ie a bit of 4 colour or try to blend it with the colour of the car, shape it etc etc plenty of nice slab sides on one of those, anyway why a volvo couldn’t you find a nice “chelsea tractor”????

Nothing wrong with a Volvo…leastways not in this neck of the woods…where every other car is a Volvo! 🙂

I had a 945 as my private car and a Chevy pick up for work, the Volvo was not very discreet…but brought in quite abit of work, up here loads of “normal” cars are covered in vinyl.

I have sold this one and being a Brit over here…drive Land-Rovers today! 🙂 I guess there both Fords at the end of the day!

Nothing wrong with a Volvo in Sweden, its when they venture over to the UK 😉 Nice design btw Henry.

As far as magnetics go, I’d have one small problem. Being a French car, those brainy boffins have made half my car from fibreglass! I could glue them on, but it kind of defeats the object 😕

Andy, i don`t think a lettered saloon car gives the right impression for a professional business. Just my 2p`s worth.

A tastefully lettered second hand small van in good condition gives me a better feeling that i`m getting someone or something that is a little bit more professional. You can get a really good quality van for very little these days.

The fact that you ain`t entirely comfortable with the idea yourself more or less sums it up.

If you’re going to turn up in a car anyway, I’d sign it. It free advertising, and it then doesn’t look like you turned up in your wifes car!!

It is always working for you, park it up at B & Q, I see loads of small businesses go in there and many don’t have their vans signed. You’re in business forget sentimentality when it comes to the car – it a tool for your business.

Hey, but I am dead tight……anything thats cheaper than yellow pages to advertise.

If it’s an estate car then fine. We use one, and another local guy just swapped his van for a car too.

i agree to disagree 😀 😀 first of all anyone who wants their car lettered mostly is a rep… and wants it cheap!! 😮
they are the guys driving around and they think wow!! everyone notices my car… but they don’t (-) it’s all designed wrong!! 😮 at 70 miles an hour it’s just a blip…………. 😛

it will work if it’s designed properly suited to the appropriate car, but i have not seen a good one in a long while!! 😀
