ActiveX control problem?
Posted by Harry Cleary on 24 July 2006 at 09:33Hi all,
Am having a serious problem with my computer, (please assume that I am an idiot, when talking technical) When I visit a website I get a dialouge box ‘click to run an ActiveX control’ when I click the site shuts down, any solutions?
Thanks in advanceHarry Cleary replied 19 years, 2 months ago 8 Members · 8 Replies -

If its only on one site then it may be a problem with the site, not you.

Are they trusted sites you are visiting when getting the message?
Active x controls usually lead to spyware trying to install on the computer (although not all active x controls lead to spyware), I would run a scan on your pc just to make sure.Andy 😎

good advice.
check your security levels on your firewall, if it is set to maximum, that could also boot you off

have a look in Internet options , Security tab click Custom level you will probable see run active X options disabled. This is usually a good idea any way but if you want to run the active x (usually flashy effects and movies on site) click the prompt boxes for sign and marked safe controls only. If the computer site has active x that’s not signed with a authenicode and the computer says its not safe to run it probable is not safe to run. unless you know that particular site is safe to run.

there is also issues with Quicktime embeeded movie player on some websites… it sometimes comes up with "Click to active this control" or alike… some flash items on a webpage put a square border around the content when you move the mouse over it.. if it is this then that is a microsoft legal lawsuit patch that they were forced to do and making it tricker for the world.
