Well it’s back down to earth today. I’ve had a few days off recently as I’ve been doing my bit as a Games Maker on the Road Cycling Team during the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Monday marked the end of it all for me, standing in London watching the athletes parade wearing my uniform for the last time.

The Olympic Road Races and Time Trials were truely awe inspiring and Paralympian Road Cyclists are both astonishing and humbling.
Every day on duty has been an amazing, and at times quite an emotional experience but none more so than when standing watching the parade gold medalist wheelchair racer Hannah Cockroft pointed at me and said ”Thank you for all your help”

I’m not going to forget this year.

Well done Steve, got loads of help from people just like you on our trip over. They even lent (unasked) a big pink hand to my young fella for a photo, he was chuffed. I was amazed that they remained so helpful and happy after long shifts, you all made the trip very enjoyable and hassle free.

Now, get some work done! 😀

I can only echo what Harry has said. We came as very infrequent visitors to London and having guys like you almost everywhere made it so much easier and alot less daunting for my 6year old.

I bet you want to do the same in a different country now though. I know it has made me want to go to an olympics abroad somewhere.

    Cheers

I have to say I feel very proud to have been involved in what has been the biggest, and best sporting, event that has ever been organised and held in the UK.

I was very lucky to have spent a day in the Olympic Park for a ticketed event as well as my duties as a Games Maker and I would find it difficult to find fault with anything that I saw or took part in. I was particularly impressed with all the signs, barrier panels, banners and building wraps, I think that the colours schemes, the text and icons were spot on despite the panning that everyone gave them on these boards.

Would I do it all again? you bet, I’m already making plans, for the immediate future I’m back to being a grumpy old ba$tard 😀
