Hi to all on this Board, I enjoy reading your Posts!

I have been involved in End Use Advertising for the last 15 years, buying instead of creating.

In 2 years time I will be leaving these shores for Spain and have identified the Business I want to involve myself in. (Selling and Producing Printed Products… Signs,POS,Screen Printing, basically anything that will be in demand over there) I have done my research and have necessary business management skills.

What I dont posess is the Technical skills involved in this side of the Sign Business.

Can anyone give me a good starting point for learning from Scratch what I am going to need, I have 2 Years so can look towards getting the basics right first. Are there any Publications I should Buy/Subscribe to?

I think the most important thing is to get a Business Mentor and I am lucky enough to know someone who will help me in this. I guess this will interest some and maybe disgust others, I know you cannot pick up the practical skills overnight and understand the Costs of setting up such an operation but would welcome any pointers as to where to start first.

Maybe the first thing is to gain knowledge of a widely used Graphics program – Which would be suitable for the most varied uses?

At least I’m not buying a Franchise haha, Seriously, If anyone could give me some friendly advice it would be well taken.

    Hi Nick,
welcome to the boards, I wish you good luck in your business venture, we all have to start somewhere. I think you will find that everyone has there favourite sign software and cutters, the best thing you can do is go and take a look at all the different softwares and cutteres available and try and arrange demonstrations and decide which one best suits you. People on here use Flexisign, Signlab, Coreldraw, Illustrator etc and the cutters range from Graphtec, Summa etc
You have plenty of time so do some research!
