    Hi all,

I inherited some T Shirt vinyl stuff, not quite flock but the smooth finish stuff. (Not sure of the manufacturer). I wish to do some T Shirts for a do tonight, and I know to cut the dull side etc only my question is: What do I do next? Do I app leave the shiny backing on after I’ve weeded the waste? I don’t have a heat press so will be knicking mum’s iron, so it will only be small text!

Any hints on how to do it?

    Thanks in advance,

    Adam

Yes, leave the backing on, don’t forget to increase cutting pressure and cut in mirror image. You’ll have to do a test cut or two first. don’t make text too small or it may be too small to stay on backing when you weed. (lost letters are a PITA)

    Good luck!

    Thanks for the reply!

What about the iron? What setting and how long? Obviously I need to set it to dry iron! Do I cover the design with a cloth and iron over the backing plastic and then peel away the clear plastic backing?

    Thanks

    Adam,

The basic rule is – as hot as you can for as long as you dare. 🙂

Apart from the porosity, that is one of the reasons you should use cotton T shirts – you can get them hotter.

I don’t know what material you are using but with flock the material tends to be thicker than the T shirt so once you have got it applied and the carrier removed you should turn it over and give it a blast from the back as well. That way you are getting the heat closer to the adhesive and ensuring it has melted properly.

Get it right and they will last for years, although it took me a bit of trial and error.
