    5.5m x 3.2m image specification advice?

I’m looking to purchase an image online for my office wall but unsure what file size/spec I need so that it will be suitable to print at that sort of size?

can anybody advise me what specs I need to have a fairly good quality print at this size as It will be seen up fairly close so want it as sharp as possible.

    cheers

Hi warren you need realtime size at 75 dpi

    To give you an idea.

If you buy an image at about 3000 pixels wide…if you used it naturally it would end up at about 14dpi

    (3000 pixels spread over a 216" wide wall = 13.8dpi)

Interpolating this in say photoshop to make more pixels will result in a smoother, yet ‘soft’ image. Feasible to make it 130dpi…but as said, 72 dpi will do for viewing from a few feet away.

Photoshop can handle up to 30,000 pixels in any one direction without resorting to RAW or TIF – and most RIP software cracks up at images (JPG) in excess of this size.

Hi warren, I was thinking just the same thing yesterday while looking through my old stock images.. What one shall I put on the wall….
Just keep an eye on file size we had a few files through from a client recently for similar areas and even after tweaking they were coming out at 1.7gb getting close to versaworks 2gb limit….
With files getting bigger and bigger, I’m even considering a new workstation for the rip.
Anyway it’ll be interesting to see what you come up with.. Be sure to post the results.

Not having much luck finding something nice nd big enough, some that are sort of lose also approaching the £200 mark 😮 , think I might just look for a nice vector design, print and apply it. Would prefer a photo of some sort so will continue looking for a while but my few hours so far have tuned up zip.

Anything really but ideally an photographic image as my other wall will have cut vinyl on it, also something more natural like a jungle or waterfall etc etc as the other 2 walls are dark so don’t want anything too dark like space or anything. Maybe even underwater but I’m really open to anything as long as its good quality.

you can sort by type, image size etc.

Some REALLY high res images here.

A word of caution – I’ve bought hi res from other sites and they have been a little dissapointing…they are indeed over 10k pixels wide, but that’s not natural ‘straight from the camera’ it’s been interpolated in photoshop.

Why not have a image of a local scene.

This was taken in Hampshire and the original is good enough quality plus she has others. Though probably best to ask if ok to use but any photographer would love the idea seeing their image in print.

    PM me for details.

    Great Idea John.

David, thanks for the link, I couldn’t find a "Largest first" search style on the other sites so this may come in handy and hope I don;t get caught as you mentioned.

    cheers
