  • 3rd Brake Light Covers – templates?

Posted by Mark Bache on 1 September 2005 at 20:38

    Hi All

We supply quite a lot of car graphics to boy racers.

We have been asked recently if we can supply 3rd brake light covers.

A piece of vinyl shaped exactly the same shape as the 3rd brake light with the cars make cut out, so when they brake it shines out the make of the vehicle.

I just wondered if anyone knew if there was any templates available to buy or is it just the case of making a template yourself.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Regards
    Mark

take a square on digital picture. measure the light exact and scale it up. then digitise/vector trace it.
cut it on cheap vinyl… if not fitting perfect alter the vector to suit slightly… few times and you will have it spot on.

you wont get templates, im pretty sure of that. 😕

Or make them oversize and trim on the car, if you’re brave enough.

Brakelights are usually pretty small, aren’t they? Another way would be to stick some tracing paper on, trace and scan.

    Hi John

It is only partially covering the hi level brake light.

I don’t know if it’s legal, but lots of people are doing them.

john, i think it is legal for a third light to be obscured or not there at all… i recon this is just there as an extra. of course… should this be applied to the other break likes then yes…. slap on the wrist time :lol1:

I know here in California it is illegal. So is picking your nose in public though so that doesn’t say much. :lol1:
