3M Rollers
Posted by Jason Xuereb on 16 May 2009 at 00:25Hey guys,
Wanted to show you my latest tools. Once you get the hang of them applying the recesses on vans becomes quick and painless. It also removes all the air from the channel so when you post heat you won’t risk popping the vinyl from the expanding air.
They aren’t cheap for what they are but they are cheap for the amount of time they save and the improved quality of your work.
Cheers

using a felt squeegee gives you cramp after a bit.

Hey James,
I mainly used the glove and my finger for recesses. With the rollers you leave a lot of the vinyl tented up over the recesses. You then heat it up and push it right in the recesses. It’s a bit scary the first time because usually with my finger I’d leave a lot less of the vinyl tented up. I probably leave about 20-25cm of vinyl tented up. This equated to about 15% stretch in the vinyl. Which is within the 30% most manufacturers will recommend.
So I really only put down the center of the recesses panel. I also slowly do it in sections and roll then follow with my squeegee to get the trapped air out and keep working like that. Too scared to do it in one go yet.

hhmmm been meaning to buy some too, but they are expensive for what they are… might bite the bullet I guess…

Hey Shane,
Same thing as the Avery magnets you look at them and go sheesh. But honestly if it saves you ruining one panel on one wrap its worth the money.
I think I’m going to buy the VCAT-2 Roller as well and give that a go.

The ones in my photo is the Large and Small rollers.
There is also one called the VCAT-2 which I think is in the the video but its Grey and the rubber is more shaped like a V.

try WM Smith Warren. I think I may have seen them on display at their stand at signUK? Too busy enjoying a chat with Gill to be sure, but I thought I saw someone waving one about

We got the rollers when we first started.
I’ve used them a few times, and they have been helpful. They are pretty simple things, and look kinda cheap.
But they are expensive… I think the both cost us about £50? (maybe more)Ours came from WM Smith

I can’t wait to get my hands on these…I ordered them last week.

Hey Lee,
You’ll love them. Don’t be afraid to push it right in there.

:lol1: :lol1: :lol1:
ive had both rollers a couple of years now i think… only use them for wrapping but find them a "must have tool" to have in your box.
i bought mine from WmSmiithsboth wheels are very good. i think most find the small wheel the most valuable and good to work with but i use both pretty much the same amount and wouldn’t be without either.
