Martin, yes we do also vinyl stuff and car lettering.
For low budget signs it makes no sence to work 3-dimensional.
Enclosed you see a sample of car lettering.

Harry, the foam comes in a very high density it´s 250kg/m³.
It´s almost the same density then pine wood.
After painting it´s really strong. But for shure if anybody
wants to damage a sign, they damage everything… also steel.

wow… always been tempted to try foam on the CNC…

thing is, how do you cost it, it all takes time to paint and CNC in 3D

Dave, if you start working with foam you cannot stop!
It´s a perfect material for signs, specialy dimensional signs.
We calculate foam signs almost the same then wood signs.
The work process balance out one other.
You have to prime and paint foam but routing time is very short
for all that.

How doe the foam get mounted to the steel supports etc that hold it to the two post signs, as I would have thought any fixings would pull through it?

Hi Dave, we never srew through the front of a sign.
The most of the bigger signs have special plywood on the back.
Or double sided signs between them.
Then we screw from back or side in the plywood.
Panel Clips work perfect for wallmounted signs.
If you come to the meet in wales we can talk more about details.

What kind of software do you design something like this on?

Here are some pictures of the sign from which i showed the proof drawing,
during and after installation. It´s in the dolomites in Italy over 6600 ft high.

James, we use different software for design, simulation and proof.
Design and work files are made with omega, 3d-Simulation is made with
fireworks and Photoshop.

Bernardo, we´re not in Köln. We moved 3 years ago to Bavaria Oberallgäu near by Sonthofen or Kempten. Our homepage is (mod-edit) but we´re just working on a redesign.
What kind of signs do you make? We´re sometimes in Heidelberg.
Do you know the "Heidelberger Studentenkuss"? This sign is from us.
Let me know when you would like to visit us and we will see how it will fit
in our time shedule.

hi manfred,

i started painting signs just recently – thats only like three years ago – although i do grafics too. i paint more windows than signs… i just found it hard to make any contact to any sign`painters` in germany as most people do vinyl. i´ve talked to some decorators and older guys who painted in the fifties which was really nice!
in the last year i´ve got a bit more contact going on which is good, and i havent got to any meets at all, which i´ll surely do one day god willing!

i really need to practice more tho since i just learned from books the internet and this fabulous website among others…

it would be a pleasure to meet up some day, and i´ll look out for your sign in heidelberg!!

and your work is beautiful and i´ve hardly seen any signs like the ones you showed in here in germany. atleast youre there to make a change!

Neil, the paint is RhinoPaint water-based. We import this paint and SignFoam directly from the states. But this is a new material we use since the beginning of the year. It´s made in Europa, very high quality, absolute even and easy to get. So if you need Foam you may contact me directly.
