1st Full wrap (and the reason I missed SignUK)
Posted by Warren Beard on 2 May 2009 at 21:06Spend 4 full days on my own fitting this. Customer was happier than flies on poop and I was well chuffed with myself as it turned out great.
My finger is so sore I want to cut it off 😕 :lol1: (darn recesses 👿 )
design was about 80% customers guidance but those huge pictures look great on the huge van which is what he wanted, almost feels like there is a full size showroom in the van :lol1:
as always crits welcome.
p.s. vans original colour is white and it’s a long long wheel base (VW LT35)
cheers
Warren

Well done mate
You deserve to be well proud of that, I know I would.
I’m guessing you were bricking it big time before starting on it.
-
hope you were well rewarded for your fine job.
dam white hinges.

Well done Warren – there’s a lot of hard work gone into that job :appl:
-
Nice one Warren…no crits necessary, shame about the black towel hanging over the bath tho!…thought somebody had peeled a bit of your wrap off at first glance!!! Did customer supply the pics???
-

yes pics were supplied by customer and I fitted using cotton gloves (dry though 🙄 ) still my finger went through a lot in 4 days :lol1:
I told the customer to spray the white hinges if he wanted to but I did not want to without permission 😉

-
Nice job Warren.
You have every right to be proud of that one.
-
nice job Warren!
like Neil said, i bet that was a worry before you got started and into it! i’m only doing a colour change on my car but have put off cutting any vinyl 3 days running now!
well done mate!

First Class Job Warren.
It doesn’t look like the easiest of jobs to do single handed, I hope it was worth your while mate. First class job on the artwork too, what media did you go for and who printed it, looks like its gone on very well ! 😀
-
Nice Job Warren…only one thing missing!
You should put under the number plate a little notice stating the vehicle is registered as a white van so if the boys in blue do a PNC check, it will be ok and the driver won’t be getting pulled up every five minutes 😀

Is this a law Dave? Customer did actually ask me if he needs to inform DVLA and I said he should check with them but was not 100% sure. Theoretically the van is still white 🙄 :lol1:
Thanks for the comments guys, I was slightly nervous the day before I started and am not too sure how soon I want to do another one this size, my finger is actually swollen today :lol1: 😥 Although the deadline ended up very tight and had to work flat out for 4 days (8-10 hours a day) I really enjoyed doing it and felt great when I completed it and took it outside for the first time to admire it, I made a decent profit although priced what I think much lower than it should have been, I really just wanted to get one under my belt so I had one in my portfolio and knew first hand how long each process would take and what pitfalls there might be so in future I know how to quote to make it worthwhile for me to do otherwise would rather not do it.
It was a great practicing experience and learned loads from it so glad I got it and glad I did it.
cheers

Not a law as such, just covering your customers rear end :lol1: Just putting that notice below the number plate should suffice.
-
putting a sticker on? we haven’t on our own black or white van
-
Well impressed Warren… Doing that on your own took some B 😀 lls
Quality

A whole weeks work, you must have been terrified you ruined a piece, not having your own printer.
Good for the folio mind you.
Hope the driver doesn’t wrap it round a lamp post and expect you to fix it for free.
-
Well done Warren top notch job.
With the recesses you might want to try a sponge or get the 3M vcat rollers. They will save your fingers and allow you to apply more pressure.
-
Hey, well done Warren, that is a really great ‘Leap in the dark’! You did well.
Looks great.

Out of anyone on the boards Warren,
you are willing to give anything a go and to do that on your own shows a lot of guts, I wouldn’t even contemplate doing that on my tod.
Well done indeed and all looks good.

I think Martin has hit the nail on the head there Warren
well done mate….great job
-
I meant to ask in my earlier post, have you attended one of the wrapping course’s available or did you just say "feck it" & give it a go?
-
Thanks for all the positive comments guys, really appreciated.
As brave as I am I wouldn’t have done something this big without any form of training/extensive practice. I did the Roland wrapping course just over a year ago which was great, not only did it improve my squeegee technique but also learned the basics of wrapping and most importantly the confidence to move forward in this area of business, and although slow to take off due to location and not really promoting it too much as I don’t have premises (but borrowed a unit to do this one)I have done my van and a few part wraps so was keen/brave to quote and accept this job.
I am a risk taker but normally only calculated risks and always must do things right, I made sure all my bases were covered regarding unit for fitting and temperatures to heat recesses etc so all done to the best of my ability following guidelines to the T to avoid it coming back and biting me in the you know where :lol1: 😉
Thanks again all.
cheers

Lovely job Warren. Something I would love to aspire to one day.
-
well done, looks grate
grate to see you have come on from the course.
what material you use?
-
:appl: Warren, fantastic job mate, especially on your own! You must have balls the size of a elephant! 😀 😀
-
What vinyl and lam was it and are you confident it will stay in those nasty Sprinter recesses?
-
Warren what can I say !
A fantastic job and fitted on your own ! I think a BIG well done to you mate, as was said to me at sign UK you have come a long way in a short time and this shows it.
Good work mate

nice job Warren…which material did you use in the end…I know the course made me change my mind about what material I use. great job satisfaction there….I hope you were financially well paid for all your expertise!
-
Thanks again Guys and Girls, making be blush a little now 😳 :lol1:
I used Jac Vinyl as that is all my supplier supplies, they gave me the details regarding heating etc and was very methodical about heating them up to the recommended temps so hopefully they will stay put, I also applied them in to the recesses as taught on the Roland course which theoretically seems the best way to do it.
Thanks again
Cheers

Well done Warren – brilliant job!
So you made a profit and saved spending a bundle at Sign UK, so win-win then 😉
All the best
Colin
