    Hello,

can any of you pros advise me on the following basics, please?

I may get an order to put a 12cm vinyl stripe around a vehicle; the customer already has a few driving around that are done by other signmakers.
It should be one straight line around the van, and I don’t want ugly “seams” like you see on the edge and centre of the Mercedes.
Another question: what is the best way to work with the handle’s cutout? Do you cut this with the plotter before or should you cut this after applying?

    Thanks very much in advance!

If you’ve got a lot of these to do it may be worth making a template with all the cut-outs from some thin card or acetate sheet. On one offs I cut around the handles with a new scalpel blade, carefully.

Thanks for the reply big G!
Looking at the corners of the VW Transporter, should I use castvinyl?

    Anyone else any tips?

I don’t think you would need to use cast vinyl for those corners. A decent calendered vinyl should do it.

If you want to make the job better looking, I would remove the handles and lay the vinyl into the recess,

I wanted to cut strokes of Avery 800 and make them at a size that I don’t get any seems (that collect dust) on the van.

Thanks Peter, is that easy to do or do you have to become half an automechanican?

I havn’t done a VW, but at a guess, a couple of torx bits and /or a screwedriver would be all you need. The vito I have done like this and that is all you need.
+ a heat gun to mould the vinyl into the recess, and then to eliminate its memory.

Will give it a try, Peter, thanks, Robert. I started this topic with the demo of Chuck Gallagher in mind. He is applying black vinyl and so seams/overlaps are not really a problem since collected dust/dirt won’t be visible.
Like you can see, the van I have to do is a sunny yellow that will show all dirt.

Thanks to all again for taking the time to reply.
