Not what I term as sign making, but something us sign makers are doing lots of these days, as a result of Covid.

We have done lots of these in a similar concept. but as this one was a bit different to the norm, due to the length and shape of desk / countertop that it had to follow. I thought I would share it.

The customer was very happy with the outcome due to how discreet it was.

    Just for the record:
We have zero to do with the FastSigns Franchise group. We were around about 17 years before they came to the UK and the reason there are none of their franchises in Scotland. 🙂

Well done Rob. Curious how you got the curves. Is it thin so it curved easily or did you preheat then follow the contour somehow?

I think we used 3mm in the end.

The brackets look kinda uniformed but they are not “equally” spaced, there is a bit of manipulation of the acrylic by where the brackets are placed. because of the curves being forced into the sheet, it naturally gives it much more rigidity to free-stand.
That said, at the ends of the sheets, the shape wants to warp out of line, which is why the vertical cable system is introduced.

We have done others using thicker acrylic which we have heated and folded right angles/corners on counters that go around corners.
Most have serving openings at the bottom, which we cut out and edge with protective rubber edging to prevent knuckles hitting off of. but this one the customer prefered to just have the 15mm lift at the bottom to slide paper under, if needed.

That is very nice Rob. i would not know where to start with something like that!
I have made some desktop ones for a nail bar but were very “home-made” looking, i thought anyway. these look posh.

That looks amazing Rob. I would not know where to start!

Were you given a design brief or an idea of what the customer was looking for and how it should be made?

    Thanks, Karen, Jeff and Peter…

No mate, nothing like that. Just the customer requires the job done a.s.a.p. for obvious reasons. but doesn’t want it looking cheap or messing up the look of their reception area.

The tape on the floor isn’t ours and was moved afterwards too. 🙂

Below is another one we did, this one has serving space areas with rubber knuckle abrasion protection added.
