10m x 4m message needed
Hi All, unusual one this. I have a client who wants a 10m x 4m sign to lay on the ground for his girlfriend to see when parachuting from a plane, with the message of will you marry me sort of thing. This has to be taken by car so needs to be rolled up.
Do I go for cheap banner material?
Is there a supplier out there for cheap PVC
No need for eyelets just tent pegs in the ground.
Message could be paint with mask or cheapo vinyl
After all, this will be destroyed straight after (unless she says no then he waits for another)Any suggestions to help me here?
Be sensible and as cheap as poss please -

Why not just use some cheap plastic (but obviously not too thin), you could still apply vinyl I’m sure and it does not have to be laid perfect without creases and bubbles as I doubt she will see them from 10000 feet up 😉

some kind of tarp? I did a google for them the other day and got loads of hits, maybe still not cheap enough.
2 bits of cheap digi banner 2 @ 1370 = 2740 so a bit short (that needs to be minus a join) but maybe the cheapest way to get something 10m long that can roll up? Add on the cheapest vinyl that will stick???
No other ideas, sorry.

A cheap plastic covering that they sell in DIY shops for decorating would probably do and then the cheapest vinyl you can get hold of, doesn’t need to last very long as you have said Chris.

DPM, "Damp proof membrane" from builders merchants.
Its to lay under the concrete in the footings.
It will come on a roll 4 metres wide by 15 metres long.
and cost roughy £24
will usually be semi translucent blue but will be tough and vinyl will certainly stick to it.
Screwfix do it, thats a decent place to buy from. -
Cheers all, food for thought as they say, will look into it in the morning. Found out that Europoint do a 50m roll of banner for 45.00. Could use this and have plenty of spare for future jobs, as long as I get an eyelet machine after

No Steve 1350mm wide so at least I can use 3 strips to make up to 4m. Will just have to peg to the ground

as I just paid £70 for 22 metres of banana banner from europoint -
I also bought this banner material from Europoint, used for cut vinyls, and although it’s not terribly soft or flexible, I have made plenty of banners with it, finished with banner tape and eyelets, and not had any complaints so far (wait for it, they’ll come rolling in now…).
I refuse to buy banana banner as it’s so restricted in sizes you can offer, and seems terribly expensive, when banners made to order are relatively inexpensive……..BTW, Steve’s suggestion about DPM seems like a good one, I thought!

Could you just confirm if this is a banner material suitable for printing or just for vinyl application as my Europoint rep doesn’t know of this product.

are you sure it’s gonna be thrown away ? to my horror, a few years back i discovered that mrs has kept every letter, b’day card etc, i’ve ever given her, especially surprise type things like this,
it is possible, assuming she say’s yes, and thinks that it’s somewhat romantic, that she’ll want to keep it, so perhaps cheapy cheap isn’t the way to be going?
paint mask on a decent banner (hemmed) should do the trick without looking too cheap !

Thanks for all your comments. We ended up using blue tarpaulin from Wickes, 2 pieces at 5m x 4m. Used banner vinyl from Europoint about 1.97 per m. Each tarp cost 4.50. Fitted outside in the pouring rain and it still stuck! (well just).
Cheap way of doing it and appreciate your comments on keeping it, hope not though.
As for the quote I had, Europoint said they can do a 50m roll of 1350mm wide banner for 45.00. Never got it but sounded very good.
