  • Changing my main supplier and therefore my vinyl brand

Hi guys. Hope everyone is well. Wanted to pick your brains on materials that i have never used.

So i really have a choice of two suppliers where i am, i use one for 95% of my stuff and have been doing so for 8 yrs now. However over the years there has been constant price increases to the point that im switching and will save 40 quid on a bundle and free shipping on all orders, even if its just 1m.

So ive been using Avery and image perfect but will now be switching to Mactac and arlon.

Print materials im picking between (for everyday stuff) Mactac jt 9500 and arlon 4550g.

They are the same price, same spec but mactac has 7yr (unprinted) and arlon states 5yr.

No experience of these films or brands when it comes to print so any advice would be appreciated. TIA

    Hi Martyn

Avery own Mactac so both brands are based on quality and although I don’t actually print, I do sell plenty of digital rolls of both brands to my customers the Mactac products are high quality and you should have no issues moving over to that brand. I can’t comment on the Arlon I’m afraid

Both brands are reputable so I would check on vinyl type. 5-7 year tends to be polymeric and 3-5 year tends to be monumeric.

Personally, I only use a polymeric grade (Hexis)

    Mactac:
I used to use Mactac for many years before switching to Oracal in 2001.
Back then I used Mactac 9800 and didn’t have any problems with it. This was purely for cut vinyl graphics though, but we used tons of the stuff back then.
As Graham has rightly said, Avery now owns Mactac and I am sure they have maintained the original quality if not improved it!

    Arlon Digital Polymeric:
Arlon polymeric digital, I used this a fair bit a few years back and switched away from it due to issues with the rear of its lining paper and contour cutting via our summa cutter, on the “recommendation of the cutter supplier, Perfect Colours”. which in hindsight was total sh1te. I have used a couple of brands since then but recently reverted back to Arlons polymeric digital and glad i did.

    Arlon Digital wrapping Cast.
Well, you can hear from my testimonial video exactly what I think about their wrapping vinyl. here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RsosJ8gkoNE&t=28s

    Arlon Colour Change Wrapping Cast:
I don’t have a lot of experience with the new Arlon PCC wrapping vinyl but you can see what my initial thoughts are on this here: https://uksignboards.com/forums/discussion/my-first-wrap-using-arlon-premium-colour-change-ppc-2/
