Roland main board repair service advice
Hi, looking for a main board tech to repair a chip on a Roland main board / diagnose a fault. Can anyone recommend someone? Thanks

may sound daft, and my description of them is probably wrong, but could you not contact a local electronics/circuit board repairs/engineer? by that i mean, if you have the part and the board and you just need the preceision attachment part of it done, then you might have someone in your area, just that they are not dedicated roland/printer/cutter engineers?

Hi Robert, yes that’s what I am looking into now, I have found a few companies selling blank Roland main boards and parts in indonesia, very nearly ordered one but turns out its a fake site (there are a few) just out to scam people!

There is a repair company in the US who have listings on Ebay for Roland main board repairs.

Yes I have seen that, its just the amount of time out of the machine, just put three heads in it! I have listed it for spares on a well known auction site. Shame because other than the network issue its A1!

Hi Buddy what machine is it and whats the fault, I just repaired my old sc540 servo and head board. Knowing the fault would help.

Hi Keith, it’s coming up with an error on the network connection, I believe it’s either the realtek chip or the driver for the chip or a faulty solder between. Machine is fine just when you try to connect it drops out and allocates a different IP address. Is this the fault you had or similar? Thanks for responding I appreciate it.

I was talking a Roland tech the other day and this issue came up to which he said they have never fixed the issue on the board they just replaced the board, From what ive read online it seems like its a dry joint somewhere on the board expanding and cooling. Sorry i cant pinpoint it for you

Hi Keith, if it is that should be an easy fix, I have an electronics firm testing the board tomorrow to see if I can get to the bottom of it. The machine isn’t currently in use so its more a case of not letting it beat me! As I understand it you can get the board but its around 1.5 – 2K and they are no longer manufactured so its from old stock. You can update the board to that of the SP540i however it needs an alternative new power driver and other boards to complete the process. These machines are valued quite low but they really are a bomb proof when they are running. I will investigate with the Electronics company but if not I will probably just drain the heads and keep them as spares for our other kit. I recently purchased this from the buy & sell forum and thought it would be a cheap way to have another 54″ plotter that would run from Versaworks to keep the printers printing rather than print / cutting. I will report back as I imagine there will be others with this issue as its quite common. Thanks for you input.
