  • Part Wrap Costs – What to Charge

Posted by Mike Thornley on 4 February 2021 at 16:43

Had an enquiry to produce van graphics in a similar style to the picture attached.

With a wrap on the rear quarter and then standard logo, details on the sides etc

What sort of price would be considered an industry standard for something like this.

    Thanks

I am with Maryn on this, £700+
Make sure the bumper can actually be wrapped and it’s not a stippled plastic one.

I’m not sure there is an industry standard, maybe there should be as there are far too many people out there doing it for peanuts!

Me personally… Double the cost of the wrap film you need, I always round it up by a couple of mtrs, too. price your signwriting how you normally would. then the labour, to full clean all the nooks and crannies properly you’re going to spend an hour + chemicals, something often overlooked.

I’d have to agree with the previous comments, materials, plus signwriting and a day on the van, £8-900 +vat.

If you’re clever about it, there’s more profit.. My hourly rate is (for argument sake) £50/hr, I can have a wrap subby in for £150-200 a day… charge your rate but get the a sub in and you can get on with other stuff!

On these prices are you’s including design?

Done this over the Christmas break going by my prices it worked out at €1080 + €250 for the design +vat

Design is always a separate fee. I think I’d be more like £1200 plus vat on that one. possibly a little more.

      @ Joe Killeen

Is this full wrap – 4 sides? (no roof)

That is cheap regardless of your answer.

(with respect) Did you calculate how much did you pay yourself hourly on this job?

        Hi Pane

Partial wrap around 11m of Arlon 6100 and some cut vinyl.

        Bonnet only has ATS logo

        Half day for printing-cutting.

Fitting started at 9am finished by 6pm one man.

I would guess materials would be around €400 including machinery max, allowing for tax still earning around €30 per hour.

        Do 2-3 a week it’s a good wage.

Local to me companies are doing full wraps on VW Caddy’s including the roof for €1300-€1700 max including artwork.

          Hi Joe,

Thanks. That makes me a very slow wrapper.

For wrapping such a job, I will not charge less than 45£ per hour, regardless of how my competition is charging.

Interesting thread. For the first layout I’d be a little heavier on the pen considering the bumper wrap, £700+ is a gift. I suppose it depends on where you’re based, how much competition you’re up against & so on. We’ve never really done any time & motion stuff & rarely do a job on its own start to finish, rather having multiple jobs on the go during the day. I think we’ll have to organise ourselves a lot better. Did this one today, two of us took just over 3 hours & went out the door for £850 plus the dreaded. The client got a bit of a break as he’s having another van done next week, ordered workwear, cards & mugs so a decent job in my opinion.

      Nice work as always Kevin.

I wish we could charge that up here, I’m working on a similar coverage design at the moment for a customer.

Saying that we’ve gained a few jobs from cheaper local companies, who offer free designs. They’ve paid us to design, and the 50% before producing anything, so we must be doing something right?

Hi David, hope you’re well. You’re designing layouts for another sign company?

No we’ve had a few customers who’ve been to cheaper companies who’ve dished out free designs.

These customers have come to us, paid us to design it, and paid quite a bit more for us to sign their vans, rather than the cheapo company. Having taken some of you advice onboard, it seems to be working.

Just followed up our quote and had the reply that they have had a quote for £640.00 to do the van to the style as per the photo. Asked if I would lower our price.

Well they are either taking the …… or your competition is desperate for work and doing things too cheap. I wouldnt be lowering or matching any prices

Asked the customer who quoted the lower price…. think I have been stitched up…. The company I sometimes subby wrap work to, is the company who has come in at the lower quote, but they quoted me higher just for the wrap part than what they quoted van owner direct. No Christmas card for them.

🤣🤣 well its good that you found out the situation. Looks like you need to find a new subby

            Ouch!

I wouldn’t be sending any more work their way… wait until they’re quiet and call up asking if you’ve any work.

Have to say I am not a fan of companies doing this sort of thing. I wouldn’t be happy.

Never a good idea to burn bridges, but No I am not happy and I am not going to lower my price to be inline with theirs either…. good to be busy, but not a busy fool.

Aye we do sub work around here and that’s bang out of order personally. Depending on what it is I will give our price of what we would of been to. Keeps prices up I find. Working together ends up benefiting us all.

What you would charge for wrapping full van like this? I probably undercharge as well.. Metamark MDX 25m in 1370, no roof wrapped. BTW what do you think about MDX?
