1st time in 20 years I couldn’t do a job
So today was the day I was “supposed” to be fitting safety film to train windscreens. I posted concerns about this film few weeks ago and most of the nightmares came true. The glass is curved mostly in one direction but also slightly vertically. I did exactly as it said on the tin and with all films I’ve used but creases formed towards the edges and I could not get rid. We spoke to supplier and they informed me on curved glass it needs to be heat shrunk on the inside, glue side down, wet. So I try it again and it still didn’t work out. I’m not blaming the film 100% as it could be that difficult I just couldn’t do it. I’ve got experience heat shrinking as I do car tint. This film is very thick and didn’t react how I would expect. So I apologized many times, told them the facts and I would get a firm in that has done this job before because I don’t believe any old firm could do it better than me. Not a good feeling tho 😕
I question the film as on the fitting instructions there is no mentioning of curved glass.

Was married to a Savo lass for almost 20 years.
Glad the wallet won’t hurt much, and tbf, you went into this technical challenge with a good degree of uncertainty, followed by research, ending with a compound curve ball.
Once the pride recovers, you (and we’ll) remember that the things not mentioned can come back to bite.
Recommend some Koskenkorva Viina, or if the local alko is up market, a bit of the Estonian viruvalja. Damn, I wish I could be in sauna now.

All too real.
Finnish is one of the most complex languages imaginable. Spent several years trying to learn it, before realising that almost all the Finns I met had good to excellent English.

Was it a well-known brand Martyn? I’ve just sold some safety film to a client for some windscreens too. They want to fit themselves to save some money (read: not pay me because I make it look easy apparently ) I’m starting to worry they may have the same issue although the stuff I purchased is reasonably thin, I’ve not used it before. Just went on my reps recommendation.

I have never tried a vehicle window or anything with a shape, other than flat.
Fair play, I wouldn’t know where to start doing something that shape. -

I hope your rep has the integrity to stand by their recomendation, or that the product actually has the potential to conform. Almost the worst case scenario might be the client screws up and hands the job over to you!
