Mimaki CJV, Direct to foam board, thoughts please?
Hey guys,
I run a cjv300-160
Question I have is I want to print directly on to foam board. I know it’s not designed for that but surely it’s possible and has anyone tried it?
My initial though is that I could make 2 tables the exact same height to go in front and behind to support the material?

I wouldn’t try it Dean,
Even if you put the head height setting to its highest it’s nowhere near enough clearance, do you really want a head strike on 2 x DX5 print heads???? [emoji51]

cjv300 is a solvent machine, using heat to dry the ink – inks unlikely to dry on the foamboard due to the extra thickness of the material, or if you did crank the heat up it would warp the board I would imagine – thats even if you can adjust the head height clearance accurately as Gil says.
Direct to board printers tend to be UV to eliminate the drying issue (and yes, there are a few Hybrid machines)

This can be done but as Colin said solvent ink is not an option….it has to be UV.
I have 2 Chinese made solvent printers, as in the video ( mine run DX7 heads) and these can also be ordered as a UV ink hybrid flatbed.
The video was made by the South African importer but show how it works.
