sourcing a space heater non combustible guard?
Hi all just renewed my insurance and to validate it i must get a 1mt non combustible fire guard for my little space heater. Going on line im going round in circles and not finding anything. Can anyone point me to a company that can supply above and then i can turn it on as its getting cold, many thanks jean

I think they mean the space heater has to go in a fire guard container.

I’d guess you could get one manufactured by a local fabricators.
Just a folded metal ‘box’ or cage, that allows the air through, but prevents combustible items getting near enough to combust.
Something like those dog crates you can get, just chop the bottom off and sit it over the top.

I’m not sure it was mentioned in my insurance, though I think I’ll check now!! I have a large galavised dog crate I could potentially use.. should do the job for my little space heater!

I’ve seen metal caging cut and curled to form a nozzle fitted to the front a space heater
Like a silencer fitted to a gun for want of a better description

thanks all, funny enough im about to do a van for a local fabricator i’ll ask him about making me a cage/cone for the unit heater. Just thought most peoples insurance would require the same and that it would be possible to buy off the shelf.

I recall a time way back in the day when ‘shell suits’ were an acceptable item of clothing. Watched a workmate wearing them stand next to a space heater actually catch fire.
I shouldn’t laugh but it was genuinely one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen (he wasn’t hurt but did go home in his underpants)
The cage idea concerns me a bit, won’t that just become a giant barbecue grill?
