LED Lettering on a mirror, your views please?
Hi Guys,
I’ve not been on here for a very long time as I lost my logins and I could never get back in so had to make a new profile.
Ok, I’ve been asked by a customer of a nightclub to supply built-up lettering with internal illumination for halo effect to go a mirror behind the drinks bar. I said that it wont work as the lights will reflect into customers eyes and the halo effect wont work as it wont have anything for the ambient light from the letters to land on, so no halo at all.
Has anyone had this request before and how did you achieve it. I thought about putting a contour outline in frosted vinyl behind the letters say about 150mm all round, but think it will make it look ugly.

the frosting will work perfectly, but you only need 10 – 15mm not 150, you’ll catch the halo at different angles ad not just straight on with a large standoff of 25mm

Thank you for your reply. But wouldn’t 10-15mm just cut the halo off suddenly and leave a sharp ending to the halo effect?
Trying to convince my customer to not do it lol

Also, are the letters very big (or small), there are few options you can use to hold them onto a mirror

Hi Vince,
The Cap height is 380mm. It’s to be made from acrylic. I’ve spoken to some companies that suggest using a backtray and use ubh tape to bond to the mirror. UBH tape to the rescue.

Hi Mark, these letters are generally very bright, I would suggest that you buy a dimmer for these just in case. If its quite a dark place they could hurt the eyes after a while. Also, make sure you use a good glass tape & prep the area well before bonding. There are very good tapes that can do this, I suggest talking to a tape specialist. I use Austen Tapes for mine 01892 832141
