  • Graphtec CE6000 Plus vs. FC series

Posted by George Neagu on 9 August 2019 at 15:59

    Hi,

I’m looking to get a new vinyl cutter 24" wide (it’s all I need). I’m oscillating between CE6000 Plus and FC series.

Pricewise, FC is double the price of CE6000 Plus.

    What I know about FC:
    – supposed to be professional series
    – has cross cut function
    – it’s a little faster

But is it really worth 2x the price of a CE6000 Plus?

    Thank you

Didn’t know there was a plus, we have the FC for garment films. Easy to use. Fast cutting. Seems to track true over long runs. Quite happy with it. Would imagine it will be a decade or two before we replace it.

If money is your only limiting factor, get the cheaper one (its still a graphtec, so it will be a first class product) but get the four foot one! 24 inches is very limited.

    Hi George,

We run a 6000 and a fc8600 and to be honest, if you don’t specifically need the fc then I’d go with the ce6000, I would possibly say our 6000 is better at small stuff than the 8600 but in reality it’s probably just down to a blade worn down further.

Don’t get hooked in on speed difference between the both of them as I don’t think anybody ever runs them at full speed, I think we run our fc between 30-40 and the 6000 runs in tandem with it.

    We have the FC8600.

As David says, you won’t run either machine flat out, so the speed advantage in negligible.

Build quality are probably similar, in that they’re graphtec and last well.

The CE has lower maximum pressure, unless you’re cutting really thick, heavy materials, regularly then I doubt you’d notice.

The FC has intelligent scan mode for ARMS, which they claim makes it more accurate. Again, unless you’re printing really long print & cut jobs, with fine detail I doubt you’d notice… there’s occasions where our FC just cuts it wrong for some reason.

The important thing is the width.

If you can get a 48inch machine, the downside being that if you print at 1370, you loose some width.

We actually pushed the boat out and went for the 160, we can print upto 1600mm, so on the rare occasions we do, we can plot it. We can also run wrap films through it, which worked really well on a fleet job we did.

IMHO – Width over speed/pressure unless you’re cutting something regularly that demands the extra pressure, as there are ways to work around the pressure issue (like multiple passes) if it’s a rare occurrence.

Agree with david. We could all do with a bit more width.

I will upgrade to a 1220 at some point.

All depends what you’re plans are, if you do upgrade, look for one with a registration system, so you can print and cut in the future, and make sure it can feed 1370 media, even if it can’t cut the full width.

i print and cut at the moment. max printing width with registration is 530mm on the 600. Its a pain in the arse but i get it done. Meterages of stickers are printed in 530 widths.

ive used both and personally i think there was a noticeable difference in the quality the fc series being much better but these were being used for cutting heavy sandblast vinyl the ce seemed to slip alot on long runs id choose fc all day ive got a 25 year old machine at home thats still going strong
