Ive been in the game for over 10 years. Back then i mostly stocked foamex, 5 and 10mm and 5mm correx.
Correx was always used for builders boards and anything short term use or someone looking for cheap.

5mm foamex was used for small to medium size signage long term and 10mm for large signage.
Then i remember alicomposite coming onto the scene and that replacing the 10mm foamex for large signs.

Now ive noticed that i only seem to stock correx and composite. Foamex seems almost comparable to price with alicomposite (dilite) and dont see any reason why it would be chosen over composite. The only reason i can see is the neater finish on the edges, however one thing ive never liked about foamex is the way it reacts to heat and how it can shatter when struck.

So what do you guys stock and for what use?

I use 3/4mm correx for temporary signs, 8/10mm for football/rugby venues and 3mm dilite for everything else. I still have bits of forex of varying thickness knocking about and usually get rid when doing charity jobs or if the size is near enough offering it to the customer for a bargin price. I think within the next year it will all be gone. Just no reason to buy again heavy and as you say shatters and reacts badly when in the sun

Composite is obviously superior, it’s just difficult to cut and can leave nasty edges

Correx 4mm & 10mm – estate agent, cheap’o site boards, 10mm for scaffold sign inserts
Foamex 3mm & 5mm – better quality siteboards, internal displays, odd external short term signage
ACM 3mm – 95% of external signage, tend to keep the gloss/matt as find it cuts and machines better than gloss/milled oddly :awkward:

As much as we do make signs from it occasionally and only when stipulated, I will always avoid Foamex and Acrylic.
5mm Correx & 10mm Correx for anything short term or budget
    3mm quality brand Composite.

    4mm ACM mostly.
We score and snap, then we plane the edge with a hand plane.

For most external signage, we use 3mm composite, order it in cut to size.

Have a stock of Foamex, mainly 5mm for internal display boards etc.

Currently got a job going through using a 10mm X-Lite.

3mm Composite for most fascia and wall signs.
Scored and snapped then file & sand edges gives a good smooth finish.

3mm Aluminium plate for most freestanding pole & plate signs and most Tray signs (Sometimes 3mm ACM for Trays)

19mm Foam board for Projecting signs

Since I brought a CNC I have gone over to composite for pretty much everything. Only use correx orvfoamex if it is requested

Composite and correx for external depending on budget, foamed all day long for interior. Also started using cardboard for interior as well as my printer allows me to print directly into it
