cutting thick stuff laminate TL502G
hi al
looking at producing some graphics with this laminate
we have the vs 640i roland
would anybody know if it is possible and safe to cut this on our machine
do we need different knife set up
thought i would ask here first befor ringing edward mathias 🙁Derek

Tried cutting similar on our gr640. Was a total nightmare. The weight of the material kept causing motor errors. Ended up with me at the front and another guy at the back holding the weight of the sheet as it went in and out. If your trying it I’d be inclined to say to keep the sheets as small as possible and reduce the "up speed" on your machine as low as it will go.

Not sure how other people deal with this, would be good know. Perhaps a flat bed cutter? When it came to the actual cutting the blade went through it no problem, was just the weight of the material that caused the issue

We use a sandblast media blade and support the media each side (effectively turning cutter into a flat bed!), run on a slow speed seems to do the trick :smiles:

When you say support Colin, do you physically hold it or have you made a base with Skybond or similar?

Mini table out of ACM offcuts, slightly angled, not dead level, approx. 350mm each side – also the table support helps the tracking, not the lightest of medias for the machine to drag back an forth :awkward:
Have been told about using heat, but never tried that trick, as this seems to work okay for the small amount we cut at the start of MX season.
