Application tape tearing from the side
Posted by Daniel Evans on 14 March 2018 at 09:47Has anyone had issues with application tape tearing from the side?
Seems strange, there doesn’t appear to be any damage to the roll but it is the side that cut as it’s not as smooth, any way to fix it?

Could be bothered wasting time on it so just changed the roll.
I’ll just use it for little bits

some times this can happen on one side if stored on a cold surface like a stone floor. the cold/damp weakens the paper on one side of the roll, so is more prone to tear.
sometimes this can happen if it has been in storage a while and the edge seems to get stringy due to the adhesive slightly tacking itself together.
it can also happen if dropped on its edge. no sign of visible damage but bonds heavier to one side making it tear when unrolled.
there is also, it getting dropped and a nick in the edge of the tape. just takes a little one, and creates a tear start every time you unwind part of the roll.
If its rough cut, again this crates a tear start point.

We get this quite allot especially in winter and only mostly with the cut down logs. We use conform R4050 so not a really cheap one. I think it happens mostly in transit most delivery guys tend to throw these things around and even with the
protection its easy for the outer bit to get dented. You just got to be really careful when pulling it out from your roller
we have to slow it right down but it’s really annoying. -
I often put it down to how its been cut in half. Guessing this is a 610 roll cut down from 1220. Ive had this in the past when the edge looks like its been cut with a blunt blade.

I nearly always get this on the last 3rd of a roll.
Try & be careful in storing and looking after edges but it still seems to happen and I cant remember when Iwas able to use a log until the end of the roll. Usually chuck it away with frustration and lose 25% of the roll. Funnily enough I was just about to post the same question !! -
I used to get this with Victory supplied app tape and I was told its because the slitting blade is not lubricated enough??? either way big pain, I’ve changed to all Hexis materials now (Check out their Supac 500 TRADE for spec and price) and no longer have problem.
