  • Patchy print solid colours on SP-540V

    Hi,

Can anyone please tell me what is happening here (see images). I have no idea why, when printing block colours (usually) I have this weird patchy banding effect?!

I have used a Roland SP-540V before at my last job and never really seemed to have this issue? This is now a different machine that is newer and apparently hasn’t worked as hard as the old one. Not sure if its a motor issue or something else. Looks like the ink hasn’t landed properly or something, looks kinda wavey… has anyone else ever had this problem?

I’m also finding that the printer doesn’t like to print at anything above head speed 400 (which is kinda slow and everything takes an age to print).

Can anyone shed any light please?

    Thanks!

We used to get this on our sp540 only in certain colours. Could be static? Do you unroll at the back of the printer? Could also be the encoder strip maybe needing a clean? Mainly appears in blues, greys and purples. Goodluck!

Yes certain colours, as i have noticed.

I have been unrolling the media yes, but I was only doing that as i thought that maybe the motor was having a hard time pulling the media off the roll, usually i dont unroll the media but i still have the same issue either way it seems. 🙁

Can someone explain to me please the effects of static? And how I might be getting it? How would i shop that?

Also i cleaned the encoder strip 2 days ago

Ill second what Dan said. Only certain colours. With mine it is light greens and blues.
I spent many hours tearing my hair out (what’s left of it) trying to fix this, and never found a cure, or a workaround.
I ended up subbing out all jobs that involve these colours.
    Its cheaper that way.

Found this blacks or anything dark colour on banner. And some media if it was Long runs. I make sure all the pinch rollers are in and this made it go away for me

Most likely the media going from extreme cold over night, straight onto your heaters which causes the media to cockle. It gives you high and low points in the media which causes exactly that pattern. Keep the media warm (ish) over night or put a lot less heat into the media when printing and it should run through straight.
