  • Looking for supplier to laser cut 30mm acrylic

Posted by Warren Beard on 26 April 2017 at 12:18

    Hi All

I’m looking for a high quality laser cutting service to cut some 30mm thick clear acrylic, it will be shaped, basically a company name but will free stand on a desk so laser cut to have polished edges.

Does somebody know a company who can do this?

    Thanks

    Warren

Its a bit thick for a laser really. I think it could be done but would need a few passes to get through it. I have a 120 watt machine and have been advised that 12 mm is about as thick as I should go at a realistic production speed.

I think you may be better off getting it mechanically cut and flame polished.

10mm is a realistic max for my laser………you would need big power to do 30mm in a single pass at a reasonable speed.

The problem I think is they want all the text joined to make a solid one piece display piece similar to the attached. It needs to sit on a counter top. I’ve seen it before and looks good but not sure how it would be polished if not laser cut?

Impossible to flame polish the insides of letters…. Laser is the only way

The company we use called Hamar Acrylic. I’ve checked with them and they can do 25mm thick.
Not sure if that’s going to be good enough?

What power would you need to cut that thickness in one pass?

Only 50w so you have to run really slow to get 10mm in one pass……the benefit is that cutting slow gives a better polished edge.
