Hi all, I’m currently looking to upgrade my plotter, the plotter that appeals to me most is the CE6000, from searching the market I’ve stumbled accross the older CE5000 @ – in most cases some £1k+ cheaper. The question I have regards the registration mark technology (optical eye/ARMS 5.0) is there anything radically different between the ce5000 and ce6000, what are the differences between the 2 models?

Any information would be most appreciated, thanks, Ben.

Ide be interested in what the Forum has to say about the CE6000 as well, as it is substantially cheaper than the Roland GX500 and the Summa equivalent.
There doesnt seem to be any obvious reason why.

As for the CE5000, somebody recently commented that it was "not Graphtec’s finest effort"
That is enough to put me off.

I bought a new cutter this week, looked at the summa, Roland and Graphtec, I only wanted a small machine as I already have the 640 vsi printer. Ruled out the Summa instantly based on the salesman’s experience who told me unless I go for the higher end models, there’s no difference and and in fact the graphtec has a tangible mode where as the summa didn’t.

I had the ce5000 for years, personally I thought it was ok but then that’s all I’ve ever known. I did feel there were a couple of things like when doing overlays, the reg marks I used never lined up 100%, this could be down to the different medias I was using, or the way I’m applying tape or the plugin I’m using.

I was pretty much happy with it and it did everything I asked.

I had a demo on the ce6000 last week along with the cx-24 and I really pushed the machines to their limits, I ruled out the Roland pretty much straight away, the ce6000 was not much better but you could see it was a better machine.

With all these machines, you need to get the settings right so I went ahead and bought the ce6000 anyway.

Once installed, added my smart knife, tweaked the settings and cut, this small file I used to test these machines cut perfect just like on my ce5000, if anything, it weeded slightly better but this is more due to having a new blade in.

Personally I don’t feel there’s any difference between the ce5000 and ce6000 but I’ve not had it long enough yet. I do find the ce5000 menu on the cutter easier to use though but then I’m used to it.

Not done contour cuts on the new one yet but the few I did I on the old machine worked fine
