  • Overlaminating Metamark MD5 on Mounters Mate = loads of static

    Hello,

I am asking for advice on that topic.

We was using a lot of different kinds of vinyls and their respective laminates. We are laminating almost everything and we never had a problem. Table we are using to do that is Mounter’s Mate a Rolls Roller clone if somebody wouldn’t know.

We got a good price on Metamark MD5 and a good quality bump i excepted as we was working with them before. But with that came some lately terrible problems. Everytime I am laminating MD5 laminate over MD5 Printed vinyl there is a
lot of static charge. And i mean a lot. Starting from only scaring me to touch the table or anything metal it lead now to lot of waste. In example the laminate film stickying to roller making creases or attracting dust particles or backing paper residue. I think that its the backing paper actually which is making that because the material from which is made is much different then on any other vinyls we used before.

Anybody have similar problems or know possible solutions?

    Much appreciated,

    Alex

    Hi Alex

I get exactly the same using the old style easymount so much so that I had to stop using both their laminates but the MD3 lam was for sure worse than MD5 and I totally agree about the static discharge being because of the backing paper. Back when I was using Hexis products I had a continuous static problem where i honestly though there was something wrong with the laminator and a loose wire but changed brands and it stopped instantly.

When I initially spoke to Metamark it was regarding the MD3 and they instantly changed me to the clear MD3 vinyl to use as laminate, this was better but still gave me problems but they certainly knew of the problem.

As for solutions I cant really help you, I stuck with using their vinyl and using a non matched laminate from alternative supplier to get a working solution but with all the increases its not a problem any more.

    Kev
