I’ve wasted a day today printing 36 clear vinyl stickers on clear vinyl.

The print part is fine but come to cutting them I was getting the ‘Sense Level Was Not Enough’ error, did the adjustment scan, still no joy.

Manually changed the x & y sense levels as advised on graphtecs website. Still no joy.

Managed to cut 3 sets inbetween the errors, then it just wouldn’t have it.

Reprinted on an alternative media, still no joy.

Read the marks on a white vinyl with matt lam fine this morning, but the gloss clear just wouldn’t work.

Graphtec advise changing the X & Y sensing level, but it’s pot luck what settings.

I’m not entirely sure what this does, so can anyone suggest anything that can resove it?

Is there not a manual method for setting the crop marks?

    Hi David,

It’s a long shot, but may work – depending on what registration marks you are using reprint onto white, or cut from black vinyl and stick over originals. This is a quick fix if you are not printing and cutting lots of clear.

I’m not sure Phil? I’ll read the manual tonight.

Not sure if manual would be any better than auto, as the sense level will be the same.

I will have a read and experiment tomorrow & report back!

Perhaps the sensor has some dust etc on it causing the erratic readings and needs cleaning?

A couple times I had to raise the sensor level on my fc8600 in order to read the reg marks on some fluoro material.
What software are you using, cutting master can be temperamental so maybe reinstall it and make sure firmward/drivers are up to date to try to eliminate any software issues.

Using signlab VPM to print & cut.

Had the sensor off and cleaned the lense.

Can you remember what you changed the sensor settings to?

If I am thinking of the same setting then mine are I believe on 70 for x and y. When I had some issues I raised it to 80 or 90 for each

Cheers will try again tomorrow. Tempers were fraying today with it needed today, and having to cut them by hand 🙁

I know the feeling, have had an abundance of software/hardware glitches recently. :bangshead:

If it worked with the matt and is not working with the gloss can you not just stick a piece of matt laminate over the reg marks?

Yeh, sometimes I lightly go over the regs marks (if laminated) with a grey scotchbrite pad to give a more even surface to read, which you could also try David.

David sorry if this is a dumb question but is the release paper white or is it that clear?

Yes the release liner is white (although not as white as vinyl, the clear gives a yellow cast)

Tried putting some matt lam over the marks and it still wouldn’t have it. I read online going over the marks with a sharpie can help.

Never really had a problem with white vinyl though.

We have a FC7000 that can be temperamental like this on clear.
One thing that works is getting a rule and drawing over the crop marks with a black biro, just to give the crop mark a little more definition.

Had an experiment this morning, and upped the X & Y Sense levels to 80, and it cut fine… perhaps it knew it was only a test and not a real job
