  • Wrap Suppliers and training help

so, i have an opportunity to be getting myself a small industrial unit at a good price, and would like to start doing vehicle wraps.
so firstly im looking for a good supplier of Avery, Hexis, 3M and Arlon vinyls. From my understanding these are the better ones available.
and secondly id like to get myself some further training, either by a course, or work experience with one of you maybe?
    can anyone help?

Each of those manufacturers will have separate training courses. For example Hexis training is held in the Hexis HQ in Lichfield. The 3M training is usually held at William Smith (Supplier near Newcastle).

In terms of suppliers I use a variation of William Smith and Spandex UK who cover all the manufacturers you have mentioned. What I will say is do not just buy materials from what you have heard about them. I would say put in some market research and find out your favourite materials with hands on experience.

Also you need to factor in many things to unit rental such as overheads, heating (beyond important!), cleanliness… If the unit is cheap but you cannot control the temperature then I would not use it for vehicle wrapping, again with dust and dirt control. Companies pour money into having clean units to work in as dust underneath a wrap does not look good at all.

Just some things to look out for not trying to put you off. Hopefully it all works out nicely bud and you can get those Instagram fame corner shots haha. :thumbup2:

Just to add to what Dan has already said as well as Heating & cleanliness lighting is another important factor, I have a small cheap industrial unit, would I do a customer wrap in it, not a chance :lol1: :lol1:
I can heat it so that the temperature is OK for doing wrap work but dust is a major factor for me with other things that I do plus the lighting is not great for that sort of work so I would need to look at installing some other form of lighting in the area that I would have to use for this sort of work. In better weather I can’t even leave the roller shutter door open & rely on natural light because the wind swirls around outside blowing a lot of dust into the unit.
I do a lot of dirty type work, cutting boards, run a cnc router which produce a lot of dust, if I wanted to do wrap work then I would have to find somewhere else to do all that sort of work & the unit isn’t big enough or laid out in the right way to be able to build rooms/enclosures to make clean & dirty areas.
Courses as Dan has said are normally run by Suppliers, different wrap vinyls have different fitting techniques although they are very similar. William Smith run a course which has had good reviews in the past, I don’t know if Robert is still running the UKSG training course, I did that one which was the only independent course available & was excellent, I know he had problems when Paperlinks went bust because the truck was using their depots to park up at.
I did a Hexis course many years ago which was really just an introduction & not much on material selection or techniques but that may be different now & the MDP Supplies course which is an introduction to KPMF materials, very different fitting to Avery, Arlon & 3M. UKSG course was by far the best if this is something you are serious about but obviously more expensive.
You may have to be prepared to travel a bit to do what is best but it should be looked apon as an investment in the business :lol1:
