  • Wall PRINTED stickers. How are they made?

One more question for today amigos!

Does anyone know how the wall PRINTED stickers are made?
I believe they are printed on water-based inkjet printers and then laminated but what media do they use?

Printing solvent on vinyl is not an option because it’s toxic and I would not sleep in that room.

After a couple of days there’s almost no solvents coming out of the inks.

You probably inhale 1000 night’s sleep worth of solvents and carcinogens every time a guy on a moped goes past you in the street or drive into a petrol station…or turn up to a signmakers with a solvent printer and just breeeeeeathe in the chemical goodness.

…to go along with the highly carcinogenic formaldehyde used in MDF wood, fabric softener and other everyday items.

Yeh, but after a heavy day of printing you go home at night thinking you are a fairy princess living in a magical castle….or is that just me?

    $this->BBvideo_pass(‘$8’, ‘$4’, ‘$7’)

I was looking at this. Is that solvent printer? I can’t identify it.

Yes, its a mutoh printer, printed then laminated then put through a Summa cutter. 3 separate pieces of machinery.

If you are producing temporary signage/decals/artwork you may not need to laminate. Are you installing or supply only?

The minimum setup you would need for the type of work I think you want to produce is a solvent ink based printer/ cutter.

I’ve got the cutter but I am pretty sure I read somewhere they can be printed on water-based and laminated but I don;t know what media to use. It should be a sort of vinyl but for water-based printers.

Yes there are coated digital SA vinyls made especially for pigment inkjet printers but they are expensive compared to solvent media. You have to do the sums to see which best suits you.

what water based printer are you using?

I have an HPZ2100 here which when laminated is absolutely fine for builders boards, temp signage., mag signs, pavement boards etc, the s/a vinyl costs a couple of quid a mtr plus your laminate, however… I have never been able to print & cut from the same file and get two exact same sizes -eg, putting reflective lettering over lettering printed on a panel.. it’s ALWAYS out! then you have to cut this stuff – it’s thick vinyl so I wouldn’t bother tryingt o cut it, just flat work..

I guess if you have an expensive rip and print then cut from there you could do it but really you want to be using a specific media for going onto paint / walls.

I do not have a printer yet. I am looking to do wall printed stickers for interior walls like kids room or living room. So we are not talking about ‘special’ stuff. It will be print and cut to shape so nothing out of common.

It is obvious that solvent print on vinyl will do the job but I was just wondering what media is available for water-based ?!
