  • Advice on Wrapping odd items needed please?

Been asked about branding shelves and am considering various options. A custom printed wrap being one of them. It is a moulded shelf about 40mm thickness with curved edges and corners. 2 key questions…… How well would it wrap and how durable can I make the wrap? Wish I had taken more notice at Sign and Digital show now 😕

    Thanks

it should be pretty durable, just depens what they’re putting on it.

You could use motocross laminate but I doubt that will wrap around edges too well, Company called ‘Substance’ who were at S&D had some wierd and wonderful vinyls and laminates..

Thanks for the info Hugh. It would be used as a customer kiosk point so all kinds of stuff could be put on it like keys, hot drinks etc. I will look at some of the suppliers on Monday if you think the wrapping vinyl might withstand some rough treatment.

We wrapped a 10mm sheet of MDF earlier this week that was being used as a table top in a bar. We just a high tack adhesive, and the thickest clear film we could find lying around.

Although the board didnt have round corners, we still wrapped around the edges and left about 2inches on vinyl on the underside.

Take a look at metamarks twitter feed, they shared an image of someone who has wrapped a counter top, can’t remember what media they used.

I have used 3M stoneguard in place of laminate for various projects in the past. It goes around fairly tight radius corners without lifting.

Thanks all. This might be the way we go then so will contact some suppliers Monday. Just worried the shelf might be too complex as there is also a hole in the middle, but we are running out of options. Might have upto 1000 shelves of various design to do so vinyl seems like a better option than some others we have looked at.

    Hi Andrew

I’ve seen floor graphic over laminate used on branded cafe table tops. If it’s durable enough for stiletto heels then it’ll be fine for shelves but they are quite thick products so tests would be needed to work out the correct methods when folding over the edges.

3M make a range called Di-Noc specifically for this type of work.
