  • GMP Excelam-1670RS or JBC Titan 110165 Laminator Issue

Posted by Craig Kerr Harkness on 19 January 2016 at 17:04

We have inherited an older laminator (either a GMP Excelam-1670RS or JBC Titan 110165, we have 2 manuals and both look the same) which was running away fine but we had a power cut last night and it was due to the laminator fusing the building. We have changed the fuse in the plug but this fuses the unit again and apparently there is another fuse inside the laminator which we cannot locate. If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi
if you are changing the fuse and its tripping the building then there is something seriously wrong finding the second fuse is not going to solve this. Sounds like either the motor as an issue or the rheostat governing the speed control etc could also check the cable for any worn through parts especially on insulation inside machine which can deteriorate with heat is this a heat assisted machine

    Hi Kev

Thanks for getting back to me. We have stripped one side of the machine and it looks like the noise filter and one cable going into it are a bit burnt out so this might be our issue. Its difficult to get an engineer to look at it as we are in Glasgow and its an expensive call out charge even just to look at it. A new laminator was on the cards later this year so looks like we might be as well biting the bullet just now.

An Easymount EM1600-SH has been offered up to us from a local supplier, have you any experience of using this or heard any good reviews from anyone you know?

    Craig
load a picture up of the parts and any part numbers you can find, if the parts can be matched it might actually cost pennies to repair

    Hi Kev

Please see attached images of the noise filter I mentioned. We have no way of testing whether this unit is the culprit but it does look like there has been something unusual happening on the cable and connecting pin. We have looked online for the part and there seems to be similar parts from Korea but definitely nothing I can find local or even UK at the moment.

We are looking at the Easymount and also a Mounters Mate just now, both machines seem more than capable of what we need to use them for although by the sound of things on the forum the Mounters Mate might be the favourite (although that may be just due to Omar’s customer service).

    Hi Kev

Thanks for sending the link through. Looks like this wasn’t the only electrical issue with it as we managed to get a local electrician to have a look for us. We have bitten the bullet and went for a new laminator which we had planned to do later in the year anyway. Got a decent deal on the Easymount from local supplier (who were good enough to let us use their demo for live jobs, good selling point) so looking forward to getting that installed later this week.

    Thanks again for your help.

As stated above we purchased a new Easymount laminator which now means we have our old laminator sitting around doing nothing (it isn’t working anyway so not a massive issue). However would be interested to know if anyone locally would like to purchase for spares or any other reason. I see people on the forum are building their own mounters so maybe something from this laminator would be useful. See attached some (not very good) pictures of laminator, its wrapped up in cling to protect it from dust from router.

    Hi Craig,

Yes I know how heavy it is as I have one. I am only wanting the bar off it really so £250 is a bit too much.

So if you wanted to sell me just the bar or the whole thing at a lesser price I could come collect tomorrow.

    Thanks

If you could go to £150 for the full thing that would be ideal. Would be good to know it was going to a good home where it was going to get used for spare parts as it has served us well for a few years now.
