Hi Dave, I hope you are well?
Have you got the latest build of Shiraz v8.1? The driver is definitely included and to the best of my knowledge, working well. The current latest build is 15240 and was released 28th August.
If that’s the build you are currently running and you’re still experiencing problems, details them here and I will see if I can help out.

Yes keeping well thanks, I heard youve moved jobs where are you now?
Shiraz support is virtually non existant so for long term so I am probably looking to replace it.
We have the latest build but its still testing and we have only one profile at one speed.
We have only just been able to print anything using the rip after having the printer since April.
There is the free rip in the box but it is not up to our standards infact it refused to print the first two jobs I submitted.
What do you think I should do?

I was a freelance engineer for 18 months but started working for my biggest customer, Atlantic Tech Services. That’s where I’ve been ever since and long may it reign.
All Shiraz support issues should really go through a dealer, of which we are one (of a few to be fair). Rasterlink is pretty good for an entry level bit of software (so I hear. Personally, I hate it) but you’ve been using a high end RIP for many years now and expect more. Who have you been using to for support of Shiraz? Are you still with AIT?
I’m sure we can sort something out for you Dave, what exactly are the problems you’re getting? Shiraz, like all other RIP vendors are limited to what Mimaki/Hybrid let out on their SDK’s but I think there’s a pretty good relationship between Shiraz and Hybrid. And it’s not like the guys at Shiraz are unfamiliar with Mimaki’s. They’ve been making them print better quality and faster than Mimaki’s own software for over a decade now….

Its a long story
We bought the printer in April from G** not knowing that Shiraz was not available even though we have Shiraz on a support contract with them.
We were told on delivery that the driver was written and at the testing/profiling stage.
We were told by rip support that they expected the driver release by the end of May
It is now the end of October we have one profile for multifix 6005 at 760 x 1080? and a rip that is nearly thereI am rapidly losing the will to live, I cannot comprehend that printer drivers and profiles are still being written 10 months after a machine launch.
What do you think
Should I wait or look for another rip supplier?Dave

That’s a difficult one for me to answer, Dave. You know I’m going to fight the Shiraz corner as I genuinely believe it is the best RIP for any Mimaki JV on the market, past or present. I don’t want to tread on any toes so try going back to G** again to get it resolved. If not, let me know and I’ll see what I can do from my side.

Thanks
We should have bought a JV33 not a JV150
I probably have no choice but wait as when it works Shiraz is far superior to the free in the box rip.To give you an idea of our requirements first job rasterlink could not cope with, illustrator eps @ 16mtr x 3.8mtr all tiles different size to avoid furniture.(File could not saved as pdf by illustrator)
At the same time G** have seriously upset me by their lack of support and I am in the process of moving all my purchases elswhere including Shiraz support contract.

Could you do the tiling in Illustrator and save all of the files separately

Morning Dave.
I got an email from the office to give you a call. I’m training in Norwich with no mobile reception at the moment just wifi. But I will give you a call when I can….

Yes illustrator could tile but there is a bug within illustrator that prevents us doing it.
The bug is that illustrator corrupts colours when there are transparancies within the file , ie the file has to be saved as one or the tiles could be different colours. Thanks for your help but the job has now been printed on a 10 year old mimaki with a ten year old Shiraz rip, Its the brand new all singing all dancing kit thats giving me grief. I wish i had listened to my dad "If it ain`t broke don`t fix it"
