  • Bending acrylic for 3d letters – advice please?

Posted by Adam Hilson on 30 September 2015 at 09:28

    Morning all.

3d acrylic building going well. Built the easy straight letters now on to the S C R Os. Problem I’m having is when I’m heating and curving the returns it’s also distorting. See pictures attached. I’m heating the acrylic till its floppy and also tried just enough to heat so it just starts bending but still it’s distorting.

Could anyone tell me where I’m going wrong or advice

    Thanks in advance adam

It looks like you’re not heating the material evenly. Possibly heat the material a bit longer to allow the heat to reach the outside edges a bit more.

    How are you heating it.

    Flame or heat gun

I am no expert but i have done some of this at work and they use a heater table and this heats the material evenly and throughly.
One thing i would also ask is once the material is hot enough are you using some kind of letter or shape former?
