    Hi,

    I have a Roland SP 300V

and i’m getting some smudging on vertical lines,
its only just started and i have done a manual clean and also removed the encoder strip as it was pretty dirty and cleaned that,

if you have any ideas i would really appreciate your help,

    Hi Paul,

Personal opinion from your post, I’d say your encoder strip is knackered and you could do with a new one…
Not the worst diagnosis but probably not music to your ears, looking at around £170 for a replacement.

    Hope that helps,
    Simon.

looks like encoder strip, have you tried turning it over, ie the bit that was in the slot of the machine now becomes the the bit the machine sees, this has worked for me and I know others on here have done this too.

I agree on the encoder strip and would only ever replace it with a genuine Roland one. However, on some of the earlier Rolands, you could actually turn the strip upside down. I’m not so sure about the 300V.
