  • Chemical Etching Glass, advice please?

Posted by Ryan Gallagher on 30 July 2015 at 16:54

Hi, we have just got a job which requires a small amount of chemical etching. I wondered if anybody can point me in the direction of a trade supplier that doesnt require paying in gold bullion. The cost of chemically etched signs seems to have gone hellish expensive since I did it a few years ago, and I cant understand how the ‘trade’ prices I have received allow anybody to put a margin on. If anybody has any recommendations Id like to hear from you, thanks.

I dont know what it is you require the etching process for but something to consider is "Etchall".

If your are doing anything large like windows etc then revert to cut vinyl etch film.
etch vinyl is an easy sell because the customer has the option of changing the design rather than the glass. costs a fraction of the etch window price and existing glass can be used.

Dont take this wrong, but if you cant make a decent mark-up using trade suppliers, then you are most likely under selling yourself or your customer is tighter than two coats of paint. 😀 If the latter, i would ignore him and move onto better customers.

Hi, thanks for your replies. Ive been away for a week and thought Id check if anybody had replied but couldnt find my post. I dont know why, but the title of the post has changed. I titled it as ‘Chemical Etching trade supplier’, I dont know where the reference to glass has come from as I need someone to etch steel for me!

Anyway, I was after somebody to etch a brushed finish stainless sign, infilled 2 colours. The panel is 840mm x 600mm, it has a simple logo, and an arrow which covers approx 1/5th of the plate. I have had quotes as dear as £500+.
Is this the going rate for these nowadays? I used to make these years ago and I would have thought technology improvements in 10 years would have made these signs cheaper if anything.
