chinagraph pencils are great, but as you say break very easy and crap to sharpen.
chinagraphs also use wax, so if you have a small vinyl letter going over a chinagraph mark, the letter will not adhere and can come away. small letters are most vulnerable.
Going back 20+ years we used builders chalk lines for marking vans out and the like. just a very faint line, nothing heavy. worked a treat on most jobs but like the wax, chalk under the edge of letters caused them to lift along the bottom over time.
i have to admit, i use a ball point pen mostly. but yes, you do require some Isopropanol fluid and it wipes right back off. but we clean the van down with that anyway, so easy done. -
There is a much better coloured pencil we use, made by Stabilo, which comes in many colours and wipes off much easier than Chinagraph. It is also a little less likely to break.
Simon.

I have found them also, thanks for that Simon! :thumbup2:
I’ll order some in today as they would be handy to have.
still caution will be needed on vehicles though with letters sat on the wax. simple error to over look and i have the t-shirt unfortunately. 😕 :lol1:

Hi
They are Stabilo All Aquarellable pencils. Code for White is 8052.
Signgeer do them in Black, White, Red & Blue.
I have used Brown & White for years. If you want a choice of 8 colours, Tiger Pens sell them.
Cheers

Always use stabilos and they’re always in my kit
Generally you’ll only need black or white
Avoid using red or other colours for that matter
Keep them out of the hot sunExcellent for marking out on glass

If there is any tendency to mark your product/substrate with colours you may find it difficult to remove particularly red whereas black and white used judicially shouldn’t pose a problem
