  • Etched glass, horizontal or vertical cut ?

Posted by Lionel Hermans on 3 June 2015 at 05:24

    Hi,

I need to do a couple of etched glasses using probably Hexis HX5DEPM.
The windows size are 175cm height x 160cm width. The vinyl roll is 152cm.

Is it better to make two bands and to cut them horizontally or vertically ?
Also, does the etched glass vinyl retracts and need to be overlapped ? If yes, how much mm approx ?

    Thanks,
    Lionel

I usually try to design a natural break in the design when windows are larger than the vinyl. Perhaps a 4cm border around the edges?

When unavoidable I usually butt join rather than overlap as I think this is the lesser of the two evils

Some etches (3M Frosted Crystal for one) are really hard to see joins in if both edges are cut on the plotter. Also Look out for a reflection or highlight in the glass to hide a join.
