Hello everyone; bit of advice please: my customer wants a Banksy style graphic on the side wall of his shop. Now I’ve done some stencil type stuff before with Applimask and gloss paint but I’m thinking this would involve a cut mask and spray paint – would I be right and has anyone tried it before (I know Banksy reads the Boards all the time!). It’s going on a recently painted outside wall, reasonably smooth; i.e. it will take Applimask ok….

i would say NO, it the mask film wont take to it well.
Masking vinyl is normally thick cheap low tack vinyl and will not conform to the likes of a brick surface.
it will take to the flat raised areas but wont conform into the uneven areas. this being the case, your paint will run behind the masking film.
personally, ide still try it but laying light mists of paint building it up over a few layers. keeping the paint tin angle at 45 degrees so as you hit it straight on. so you limit the paint bleeding behind the film.
Yes, you will still see tell tale signs of this happening but if its supposed to be a Banksy style job then it will look all the more authentic with this happening as that’s how his look anyway.
